FAQ

KAL-CHI EPICS

Licensed music is so expensive these days. And let's be honest, apart from maybe a few overplayed tunes, license-free music is often not the highest quality.

In light of this, our mission is to bring you low-priced yet quality soundtrack albums with a range of tunes that you can use and reuse in your projects to your heart's content.

We want to add production value to your venture without touching the sides of your pockets.

So, what's different about our approach? Aside from the price, we decided to go with albums that give you a gamut of themes within a matching style. Let me explain that more clearly using our debut release: Orchestral Cinematic. The album contains a whole range of emotive orchestral music, including tunes suitable for: action; love; contentment; comedy; suspense; tragedy.

We don't expect you to use all of these tunes in one project, we estimate you'll use one to four in a single go. But hey, the price of the entire album is already cheaper than most one-use, single royalty-free tunes. You can buy our album just for one tune, and keep that whole album in your catalogue for future projects. We believe this helps promote creativity, and certainly reduces the hassle of sourcing audio that independent filmmakers/videomakers/ vloggers suffer in the realisation of their work.

FAQ

Why do I need to register?

Quite simply we're paupers, and there are ways of ripping music off from the internet and spreading it for free. These albums are a lot of work for us and we give them to you really really really cheap! By registering, we can keep track of who's using our music honestly, and who's just snatching sweeties from our starving-artist mouths (cue violins). We're not going to go on a big anti-piracy tirade, but let's be honest, we're not exactly Sony to afford that missed revenue.

But I really only want one song!

Great. As you've probably researched for yourself by now, the whole album's cheaper than most royalty-free songs. We want our customers to view a purchase as buying one song, and getting nine bonus ones thrown in. The worst case scenario is you get a bunch of songs you might not use. Basically for free. You may be shaking your fist at the sky now and crying, "I will never make anything with a comedy vibe!" but in a year's time you may find yourself working on a project where you think, "oh, that comedy tune I begrudgingly got given with the other track I wanted is perfect for this!" You never know. That's kind of the point. Foley artists go into the field and record a million random sounds to build up their stock. We want to help provide you with the same kind of wide-ranging catalogue for scores.

Can I really use and reuse these tunes forever?

Yep. Once they're registered you're good to go. Even in the amazing year 5 billion.

Can I edit and add to the tunes?

Of course, it's all in the licensing agreement. Just make sure you continue to give us credit for our work. Once registered, we even provide you with stems in order to make the editing process that much easier.

How do you do this so cheap?

Ermmmm... let's call this a labour of passion. We want to help out fellow guerrilla creatives like us. We don't expect our primary income to come from this venture, at least not yet. It'd be nice though - keep supporting us and who knows! Remember that we put in thousands of work hours into an album, and receive very modestly in return. Think of us kindly.

Can my friends use tracks from the album I bought?

The short answer? - 'fraid not, buddy. Part of the terms and conditions is that the registered license-holder must have a major credit in the project. Though this might help you get your foot in the door on your friend's project, wink wink... (pro tip: have something positive to offer their project beyond free tracks)

Will you edit this tune into the order I want it?

Actually, we try to compose each tune with several distinct movements, making it even easier for the newbie audio editor to cut and loop segments how they like. Also, we provide stems. With a bit of practice you should be able to edit the tune into your preferred order. Good luck!

Can you compose a bespoke tune for my project?

Bespoke composition takes a lot of time and effort, for which there is a healthy going rate. If you have the money for a composer, you should carefully consider if it's really us you want to contract. Be aware that, whoever you contract, bespoke music should and does cost considerably more than 28 bob. If you're just starting out in your creative career, it's best not to worry about tailored music. Instead, spend your resources on getting experience and upping your creative game.

Do you have [insertblank] genre, I can't find it on your site?

At the time of writing, we have exactly two genres - orchestral music and chiptunes. There's more exciting stuff in the pipeline, so bookmark us and keep checking back. Also, go ahead and contact us with suggestions, we'd love to hear from you. We're happy to create based on popular demand.

Got any of those happy ukulele and whistling tunes?

No. No we don't. And probably never will. Popular demand be damned.
